Objective
Together with KTEG and Gravis Robotics, we developed a fully remote-controlled ZE85 excavator. Among other things, SUNCAR was responsible for the intervention in the pilot hydraulics, the on-board electronics, and the interface to the sensor box on the cab roof.
Distance-independent remote control
The system enables the machine to be controlled remotely via the 5G mobile network. The connection is distance-independent, provided both sides are connected to the internet. On the machine side, this can be 4G, 5G, or Wi-Fi.
Augmented Reality
Augmented reality enables precise depth perception during excavation. For safe work near the machine, a remote wireless emergency stop is provided, which can be activated in an emergency.
A fully mirrored vehicle cab enables full control of the construction site. In addition, the sensor platform with cameras and LiDAR on the excavator cab provides optimal all-round visibility.
Electromobility, fully thought through
Remote control of machines can save resources and, above all, protect employees when deployed in hazardous areas, e.g., avalanche-prone regions, or in very remote locations. Work utilisation can also be optimised—one operator can run several underutilised machines from a single location.
