Objective
Our central objective was to strategically apply our extensive expertise in fast charging technology to this innovative project while further developing our existing products. The focus was particularly on opening up new application areas in the maritime sector. We aimed not only to provide high-performance technical solutions but also to create customized interfaces that meet the demanding requirements of specialized applications. A particular emphasis in this project was on implementing a reliable and efficient fast charging infrastructure for fully electric foiling racing boats.
Approach and Technological Methods
The first step consisted of close collaboration with our partner, E1 boat manufacturer Seabird Technologies. Initially, we developed a fast charging interface as a proof of concept to validate the fundamental technical feasibility. We utilized modern power electronics, robust housing materials, and modular interface architectures to enable flexible integration.
Following successfully completed tests, the interface was further developed into a customized solution. We placed particular emphasis on high charging performance, mechanical durability, and weather and corrosion resistance—critical criteria for deployment under extreme maritime conditions.
Challenges and Solutions
Working in the maritime environment presented specific challenges:
- Corrosion protection: Salt-laden air and water require special coatings and materials.
- Mechanical stability: Strong vibrations and impacts during high-speed operation had to be considered.
- Integration into existing systems: The charging infrastructure had to harmonize with the complex onboard electronics systems of the boats.
To overcome these challenges, we relied on intensive test series under real operating conditions, developed reinforced housing structures, and implemented intelligent communication protocols for seamless integration into the boat systems. Close on-site coordination with engineers, designers, and technicians from Seabird Technologies proved to be a decisive success factor.
Results
The project resulted in a new generation of fast charging interfaces specifically designed for demanding marine applications. The solutions are not only robust and multifunctional but also offer high operational reliability even under extreme conditions. Through successful integration at Seabird Technologies, we demonstrated that our fast charging technology can be reliably and efficiently deployed in the high-performance maritime sector as well. Furthermore, the project laid the foundation for additional collaborations in the field of fully electric propulsion systems and strengthened our position as a competent technology partner in this segment.
