LIEBHERR LR 1250.1 unplugged

SUNCAR battery powered crawler crane Liebherr LR 1250 unplugged

In 2020, Liebherr unveiled the LR 1250.1 unplugged, the world's first battery-powered crawler crane driven by an electric motor with a system output of 255 kilowatts.

Project goals

SUNCAR was involved into the electrification of the crawler crane and the associated key points:

  • System design
  • Accompanying software development
  • HVDU development
  • Accompaniment of mechanical design
  • Project management

  • Accompaniment of tests on the component test bench
  • Accompaniment commissioning
  • Accompaniment of machine assembly
  • Expertise Eurofins

Material supply:

As part of the 20191111-LR1104 material offer, Liebherr's Nenzing plant was
was sold and delivered some components for the electrification of the two crawler cranes.
The actual delivery was continuously adjusted during the course of the project.

The Liebherr LR 1200.1 unplugged is the world's first battery-powered crawler crane. It is powered by an electric motor with a system output of 255 kilowatts.
Compared to the conventional versions, there are no compromises in terms of performance and availability. The LR 1250.1 has a maximum lifting capacity of 250 tons and achieves the best possible combination of operator benefits, efficiency and environmental compatibility.
The new machine is emission-free and has a very low noise level - a great advantage in noise-sensitive areas and also for the people working on the site.
The crane can be recharged on a conventional construction power supply (32 A, 63 A) in 4.5 hours and optionally with 125 A in 2.25 hours. The capacity of the battery is designed for 4 hours of lifting operation. As the name suggests, the crane can be operated without cables due to the battery-electric drive.
