Powerful and robust excavation
The electric excavator TB1140E combines all proven features of a Huppenkothen excavator, such as smooth hydraulics, high performance, and excellent maintainability, with SUNCAR’s emission-free electric drive.
Project Goals
The goal of this project was the development and realization of a 16-ton electric excavator. For the project, a chassis from a Takeuchi TB1140 was used and converted with suitable components to enable the implementation of the electric excavator. These include battery, electric drive, charging solutions, and other components necessary for electrification. A morphological analysis of various implementation options was carried out, and the most suitable solution was selected.
The main development consisted of the complete design of the TB1140E, including component analysis and calculations for various structural elements. Furthermore, the thermal management for use in Central Europe was calculated and designed. The electrical circuit of the traction battery and the excavator also had to be developed.
In a further step, the structural elements were implemented by moving them into production, transforming data into real components. A test stand was built from parts of the production and additional component orders, where the system could be parameterized, commissioned, and tested before installation.
After the successful test phase, the system was mounted on the construction machine and put into operation.
Results
The electric excavator TB1140E combines all proven features of an excavator, such as smooth hydraulics, high performance, and excellent maintainability, with SUNCAR’s emission-free electric drive.
The excavator is equipped with a synchronous axial flux electric motor for higher dynamics and greater torque, as well as a proven and powerful hydraulic system with improved cycle time and efficiency.
The TB1140E is committed to continuous improvement in development, environmental efficiency, ergonomics, marketability, and ease of operation.
Unique Boom Flexibility
The large slew angle, both left and right, allows for optimal maneuverability in confined environments without constant repositioning of the machine. The large ground-level reach of 8,325 mm and a digging depth of 5,270 mm create excellent working conditions.
Improved Hydraulics
With improved hydraulics, the TB1140E offers greater versatility for attachments. Users enjoy the smooth operability and high digging force of the TB1140E. The insulated cabin provides the necessary comfort for a full workday in rough terrain.
Easy Operation
Attachments are controlled by buttons or proportionally via the joystick slider. The automated control stops the electric motor when idling, thus reducing energy consumption. The boom is slewed by a foot pedal. The travel motors are equipped with impact-resistant valves for smooth starts and stops.
